Edo shishu (embroidery)

Forty-one traditional craft items designated in Tokyo were introduced. 

Demonstration of embroidery so-called Edo shishu was done.

This is a work of Edo embroidery.

Features of Edo embroidery

1. All works are made by hand.

2. Various kinds of threads like silk, genuine gold, genuine silver, flatted gold, flatted silver, powdered gold, powdered silver and lacquered are used.

3. Cloth for embroidery should be silk or hemp.

Artisans twist threads by themselves considering thickness and looseness of threads. They deal with embroidery minutely with various colors of the threads just as they draw a precise picture.
